Mrs. Hemi’s Bone Soup


125 gr small red beans – precooked

1 kg marrow bones

4 medium onions – cut in large pieces

1/4 kg potatoes – boiled, peeled, and diced

grated tomatoes


salt, pepper

ginger and garlic paste mixed with little vinegar



  1. In pressure cooker – bones, onion, turmeric, pepper, and a little baharat.  Add 2 cups water and  cook 15 minutes.  Cool.
  2. In large pot – fry garlic and ginger paste in 1-2 Tablespoons oil.  Add tomatoes, and saute.
  3. Add prepared beans and potatoes, and all bones.  Water should cover bones.  After first boil, taste for salt.
  4. Cook overnight on low flame, or in low oven.
  5. Before last cooking, sprinkle baharat on top.  Later, stir well.
  6. Remove fat from top before serving.
