Ilana’s Shrimps in White Wine




salt, pepper, thyme

about 1/4 cup white wine

Optional: 1/3 box sweet cream (1 box = 250 gr)


Fry thinly sliced garlic.

Add shrimps and seasoning. Toss till shrimps pink.

Add about 1/4 cup white wine and bring to boil. Lower flame and cook till sauce thickens.

Mom’s Danish Herring


6 herrrings, soaked overnight and cut in pieces

1 cup onion – diced

1 cup apple – diced

1/2 cup oil

1/2 cup sugar

1 cup tomato paste

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1 teaspoon dry mustard

3/4 cup vinegar


Combine all ingredients, and refrigerate in air-tight jar.

Mom’s Mock Chopped Herring


1 tin sardines

3 hard-boiled eggs

about 3 apples

1 onion – grated

2 slices chala, soaked in vinegar, squeezed and mashed OR

7-8 Marie biscuits, soaked in vinegar, squeezed and mashed


Mix all ingredients, keeping some egg for garnishing.

Tuna or Salmon Mousse


2 tins tuna or salmon

1 Tablespoon prepared mustard

1 cup sweet cream

1 pkt gelatin

2 Tablespoon mayonnaise

Method: Mix all ingredients, excepting for gelatin, in food processor. Dissolve gelatin in water, and add to above. Refrigerate to set.

Shrimps in Coconut Milk


500-750 gr frozen shrimp

2 medium onions – chopped

1 Tablespoon butter

2 cloves garlic – chopped

1 tin coconut milk

1 teaspoon grated ginger

1 teaspoon salt
